    The visit underscored Sierra Leone’s growing commitment to eco-tourism, environmental conservation, sustainable development, and the promotion of its rich cultural and natural heritage. The Gola-Tiwai landscape offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the country’s extraordinary biodiversity while supporting conservation and local communities.

    In July 2025, the Gola-Tiwai Complex, comprising Tiwai Island and Gola Rainforest National Park, achieved a historic milestone by becoming Sierra Leone’s first-ever UNESCO World Heritage Site. This prestigious designation places the complex on the global map as a site of outstanding natural value and represents an important achievement for Sierra Leone’s conservation efforts.

    The National Tourist Board (NTB) in strategic initiative to popularize the newly launched logo for the “Year of Culture and Creativity,” calling on industry stakeholders to integrate the new branding into their domestic campaigns.
    Serving as the primary marketing and promotional arm of the nation’s tourism sector, the Board is spearheading the effort to ensure the new logo becomes a recognizable symbol of the country’s vibrant cultural landscape. The initiative aims to create a unified visual identity that highlights the intersection of tourism, heritage, and the creative arts for the year 2026.
    The Board encouraging all industry players—including tour operators, hoteliers, event organizers, and travel agencies—to fully encapsulate the “Year of Culture and Creativity” design into their activities. The NTB advises that this new logo should appear alongside the standard destination logo, creating a cohesive brand message for domestic audiences.
    To facilitate widespread adoption, the high-resolution copies of the logo available immediately. Stakeholders can obtain digital files directly from the Ministry or the National Tourist Board.
    The Board envisions the logo being featured prominently on:
    Local marketing brochures and flyers
    Digital promotional materials
    Event banners and collateral
    Corporate stationery
    While encouraging widespread use, the Board emphasized the importance of brand integrity. A key directive accompanies the release: the materials must maintain their original order and design at all times. Alterations to the logo’s color, shape, or composition are prohibited to ensure consistency across all platforms.

    The One Nation Reggae Concert delivered an unforgettable night of music, culture, and unity, marking one of the most iconic moments in Sierra Leone’s entertainment history. The atmosphere was electric as an overwhelming and jubilant crowd filled the venue, eager to witness global reggae icons share the stage with Sierra Leone’s finest reggae talents.
    Government officials, members of the diplomatic community, private sector leaders, the Reggae Union, and reggae lovers from all walks of life turned out in massive numbers. The event was completely sold out, with thousands flocking to the garden to experience greatness and celebrate a historic fusion of African and Caribbean artistry.

    Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Hosts Inspiring “One Nation Festival”

    As part of its ongoing “2025 Year of Ecotourism” initiative, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with Olive’s Garden and Reggae Union Sierra Leone, hosted a vibrant, unifying, and culturally rich event, dubbed One Nation Reggae Festival, at the Family Kingdom Resort along the Aberdeen Beach Road in Freetown.

    The festival served as a platform to promote national unity, celebrate Sierra Leone’s musical heritage, and strengthen the country’s growing tourism appeal. The event drew in a large, diverse audience of locals, diaspora, and international visitors, all of whom immersed themselves in the rhythm, message, and energy of reggae music.

    Present at the festival were key figures in the Ministry, including the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, the Deputy Minister, Kadija Ahene Kamara, and the Permanent Secretary, Judith Jones, accompanied by staff of the Ministry and its subvented agencies.

    In her brief remarks, Minister Tunis welcomed all for showed up at the event, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to creating inclusive and culturally enriching platforms that unify Sierra Leoneans while promoting the country’s unique touristic identity.     Sierra Leone Tourism delegation interface with National Railway Museum in York England

    11th Nov.2022 York England Helen Ashby OBE. BA. FMA is one of the longest   staff from York National  Railway Museum England who received the Sierra Leone’s Tourism delegation from York train station.

    In her welcome note, she appreciated the team, for endeavouring to honour their invitation to see the monumental Relics of their Railway Museum.

    This Iconic  National Railway Museum is a museum in York settlement which forms  segment  of the Science Museum Group.

     

    The official visit today, help the delegation to understand essence of  the museum which tells the story of rail transport in Britain and its impact on society. This historical museum is a domicile for preserving national collection of historically significant, which includes: railway vehicles such as Mallard, Stirling Single, Duchess of Hamilton and a Japanese bullet train.

    In addition, the team discovered that the  National Railway Museum anchor a diverse collection of other objects and articles that has elementary pieces of the historical touch of fine arts.

    Madam Ashby in the escorted tours made us to understand, that this great museum has won many accolades and  awards, including the European Museum of the Year Award in 2001.

    After Sierra Leone’s railways shut down in 1974, the same  collection of engines and other artifacts spent decades hidden away in this old workshop—now a museum. However, we are here to see how these structures been done here could be replicated in the future.

    The General Manager National Tourist Board, Mrs. Fatmata Mida  Carew in addition, emphasize the need  for  healthy collaboration with York Museum and Sierra Leone Railway Museum. With this she believes, heritage and culture will have a place value of sustainability.

    In conclusion, the Chairman Board, Mr. Tamba Alliue Kokobaye called on Madam Hellen Ashby to foster the collaboration between York Railway Museum and Sierra Leone National Railway Museum, Coordinated and directed by Monuments and Relics Commission.

    The visit to York National Railway Museum and York city  itself is an eye opener, to the team; viewing their key Monuments and Relics, gives a clear insight to the team on maintaining heritage and cultural elements.
